Alexander Bell changed the world by not only inventing the telephone, but also introducing an early design of the record player.
Alexander Graham Bell worked with Thomas Watson, an electrician and Bell's assistant, while building the telephone. Watson was integral in helping Bell refine the design and testing the first successful telephone call in 1876.
No. It was invented by Alexander Graham Bell, who was a British (Scottish) inventor. He came up with the design for the telephone while visiting his holiday home in Ontario, Canada. He built the first phone while he was staying in Massachusetts, USA.

Because he didn't! Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.Actually Thomas Edison did invent the carbon transmitter which allowed practical transmission of sound over longer distances, a huge improvement over Bell's design, which it replaced in the 1880s. The notion that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone is a little misleading. A number of people invented various technologies that were used in telephones, including Alexander Graham Bell. The type of telephone Bell invented was not very practical and quickly became obsolete. His business model was the key to his success. The American Bell Telephone Company either developed or acquired the rights to the differentcomponentsthat made up the telephone, and fended off challenges to Bell's patents, eventuallydominatingthe market.

The controversy is that in Alexander Graham Bell's notes were found sketches nearly identical to ones found in a caveat filed by Elisha Gray for a telephone device prior to Bell's patent which include feature until then not mentioned in Bell's notes implying that Bell "borrowed" the design from Gray's caveat.
