"Topicana" is the username of an automated bot that adds categories to questions. It assigns categories based on an algorithm that analyzes the keywords that are in the question and finds the categories that have the most similar questions.
Topicana's contributions are not tracked.Though, since Topicana is a bot that never sleeps, we can say that Topicana has made millions of contributions - much more than our top human contributor, currently Rudiful2.
Quite simple, Topicana is a female name. This is a bot that is helping in the auto-categorization process.
Topicana is a bot (short for "robot"). It runs off software. The software uses an algorithm that looks for key words in the question and tries to guess where it belongs. In its early stages, Topicana got almost everything wrong (you could follow its contributions and rack up contribution points pretty quickly). It has since been improved, and it learns from our recategorizations where to put questions. It makes mistakes, but it is still learning. Give it a chance. If you find that it has made a mistake, just correct it. That is all that can be done, but it will help.
It means exactly what you think it means. Topicana is an automated process which adds uncategorized questions to the best-fitting category it can find.
Yes, Topicana is a real bot; a real person wrote the software. But once it was tested and let loose on the WikiAnswers site, it has gone about its duties of categorizing questions day and night without stopping for a cup of tea, a comfort break, or forty winks. It has also taken a lot of stick from many of the human Supervisors who were quite critical whenever it made a mistake, and it made quite a few. However, Topicana is learning and now makes fewer mistakes, and most Supervisors accept it is here to stay. Indeed, more bots are being let loose on the site, doing the tedious tasks that allow us to get on with the more important work of making sure this it the best Q&A site on the web.
Topicana is an auto-categorization bot. Its bio proves this.On the Lighter Side****Top Secret***to be read by authorized persons onlyTopicana is the grandmother of the Holmes 4 computer in Heinlein's "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress." This is the biggest secret of the entire Wikiverse...we time travel. Mike, the familial name in the book, at last installment was to be "rescued" by his own progeny Minerva and Tina. We have heard no word on whether there are plans for Topicana to time travel, although her obvious talents are sorely missed in the future US space plans concerning the beginnings of Star Fleet. While we have her, we should enjoy her services and endeavor to help her learn the wiki way as this would be an asset to our future network of Wikiverses. There are negotiations afoot with the alternate universe of Heinlein to employ the Stone family in this wikiverse as consultants, although there is doubt that the Stones would be comfortable in our wikiverse solar system. As to why our Topicana is "copying" you, I would suggest that perhaps she is an alter ego of your rather vivid imagination? If this is the case, please imagine on more logical lines? Or weight the keywords more toward reccommendations of the volunteer staff.Submitted:Being known as Minerva
The Duke of URL is a subroutine within Wiki s software. It is a computer program, and is incapable of independent thought. Note that the Duke was withdrawn from service on or about 28 June. It is true that the Duke cannot "think" (see any added link he has added to a question for an example), though I do hear that he has some very dirty thoughts regarding Topicana.
Because he is a dog, and does things without having any complicated reason for doing the things he does. He either wants to play or wants a fresh bone, or possibly is offering a token of affection.
Well, if you mean finding a person for dating or getting close to someone, you cannot do that here. However, if you wish to contact a person for questions about WikiAnswers, or some other reason, you can just go to any answered question, and if it doesn't have an ID as the last or first answer, you can click on the username of the person, and that is how you find a real person. All users (except for Topicana and Duke of URL, which are both robots) are humans and real people.
When entering a new question - or clicking on "Edit Categories" for an existing one - WikiAnswers looks for questions and answers that have similar words to that question. It polls the assigned categories of these questions and answers, and the categories that get the maximal weight are listed in the "Suggested Categories" list, for the user to choose from. When a question has slipped through the cracks and is uncategorized - despite the process described above - the Topicana bot may be called upon and will automatically assign a category from the "Suggested Categories."For example, if a question regarding "Ron Weasley" is asked, the bot will search for all questions regarding "Ron" and "Weasley," and then assign the correct category - "Harry Potter" - to the new question. This is the big picture, while glossing over some of the technical details.Sometimes the suggested categories are quite appropriate, but sometimes they are not accurate. So, when posting questions, you should always check that the "Suggested Categories" are OK. If they are not, it would be best to search for more suitable categories by using the "Search categories" box provided. The same goes for questions you think Topicana put in weird categories. If you find any questions that are misplaced, you can help Topicana correctly identify and categorize such questions in the future by placing each of them in correct or more appropriate categories. As part of the 93 experience that WikiAnswers ran on 9/9/09, this question was answered by one of the WikiAnswers Software Engineers, Yuval, by video response. WikiAnswers is a community of humans that answer questions for other humans. There is a lot of technology involved, put together by some smart people that try to program the computers to do certain things for the users as if they were a human. And there are a couple of programs that do certain tasks for us, such as Topicana, a 'bot' that categorizes questions that haven't been put into a category. I answer questions and have just eaten a piece of banana cake and drunk a nice cup of tea. Machine's don't need that kind of input yet!
The Moobot account is currently inactive. The tools that were once used by it are still being used and you can still make suggestions for projects, but you will not see those changes made by the Moobot account.Previous AnswerMoobot is a computer program which is run by real people. It was created to easily make corrections to questions and to post certain types of answers. While it helps us make many changes to WikiAnswers in a short period of time, Moobot is not a fully automated bot like our other friends Topicana and UnflaggingStrength. There is always a Supervisor sitting behind the controls.
