Why do so many people make typing and spelling mistakes.?

Unfortunately there are over 300,000 people writing answers at any given time on this site. This includes children, adolescents, and people from many other countries who speak other languages well, and English as a second language. We supervisors try very hard to catch the worst of the offenders, but sometimes it is impossible to correct every error.

Some people simply have a difficult time spelling. This includes children through college professors. I consider myself a good speller and a careful person. I check my spelling all the time and still make mistakes occasionally.

Spelling and grammar mistakes on Wikianswers are due to several factors.

a) For many here English is a second or, in some cases, a third language

b) Some of the users are very young and have not fully developed their writing skills

c) Some are lazy

d) Some are not paying attention to what they are writing.

When you make a mistake on the computer whilst typing. It is called a "typo"

People just do lots of typo's because they probably are typing TOO fast, and they're fingers can't keep up. Or maybe they are just bad at typing on computers!

No, it isn't on purpose.

It's important to remember that anyone from the age of 13 can use the site and not everyone is experienced in good spelling and/or typing.

You can fix any spelling mistakes in answers as long as you tick the "minor edit" button before saving.

Many people are just naturally bad spellers. Also, much of the poor spelling you see on the internet is the text-type spelling. People who do a lot of texting get into the bad habit of using that type of spelling in their every day lives.

Too, there is always the ones who either think that type of spelling is cute, or they are just too lazy to spell the words correctly.
