Why don't you answer all questions?

There are a number of reasons a question might not get answered.

1. We don't know the answer. There are two subcases here; questions that don't have an answer either because literally no one knows the answer (or because the question is inherently impossible to answer... some of the weirder aspects of physics especially fall into this category), and questions that theoretically should have an answer, but finding it would be difficult ("Who is the youngest mayor in the United States", for example).
2. The question would take a very long time to answer and the answer would be of no perceivable practical use anyway ("What is the middle name of every mayor in the United States?").
3. We don't answer questions of some types as a matter of policy. The big example here is requests for celebrities' home/cell phone numbers. Questions about how to do things that are illegal are another.
4. No one's gotten around to it yet. There are a lot of questions, and only a finite number of people willing to answer them. Due to the way the site works, a question that isn't answered fairly quickly may languish unanswered for a long time, just because everyone's forgotten about it.
5. No one cares. We're volunteers here. We're not paid by the answer, and I for one have better things to spend my time on than doing what is obviously someone else's homework for free. The fact that I am capable of solving stoichiometry problems doesn't mean I think it's so much fun that I jump at the opportunity to do so. If I think a question is interesting, I might answer it even if it takes me some effort. If I don't think it's interesting, I'm not likely to bother.
