Why is there such bad grammar on the Internet?

We should probably assume that this question is phrased and spelled as such to illustrate the same point.

This is one (of many) of the trouble areas that arise when you have a resource that everyone can help contribute to. Here we have many teams of members that work extensibility on trying to maintain the highest of standards. While having an almost unlimited number of contributors to answer questions, we only have so many that accept the task of "clean up" and maintenance.

We always do our best to encourage all of our contributors to try their best to answer questions to the best of their abilities. These abilities are different for different people. The contributor that knows the best answer for a question may not know all of the rules of grammar or have perfect spelling. We are a group and as a group we support each other to achieve the best quality we can in all of our questions and answers.

It would seem that a lot of people on the internet are uneducated and/or do not care.

The above answer is true, and has a lot to do with two things:

1. Computers are so inexpensive nowadays that everyone has access to them. Just as radio and television were dumbed down when the masses gained access, so the net is as well. People who speak and write poorly off line, are not going to do any better on line.

2. The means to interact on the net is by typing, which even intelligent people have various levels of proficiency at. Just as one does not go back and "re-speak" in a conversation, so many do not wish to spell or grammar check everything they write in a written conversation. "good enough" is regarded as "well enough", so long as the meaning comes through.
