∙ 12y agoSafe Mode is a special way for Windows to load when there is a system-critical problem that interferes with the normal operation of Windows. The purpose of Safe Mode is to allow you to troubleshoot Windows and try to determine what is causing it to not function correctly. Once you have corrected the problem, then you can reboot and Windows will load normally.

∙ 15y agoThe computer itself does not operate in safe mode, but the Operating System (e.g. Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, OS X, BeOs) does. Just to be clear, in general it is software that operates in safe mode, not the actual hardware. Basically, when the operating system starts up, it loads several auxillary files that are needed by peripheral devices and programs on the computer in order for them to operate properly. When an Operating System runs into problems it may reboot in safe mode so that the minimal support files are included at start up. This is done so that the problem can be properly diagnosed by selective addition of startup items. Similarly, many programs that feature plugins may give you the option to start up in safe mode, whereby after the program starts you can add plugins one by one to find out which one may be buggy. Therefore it is possible to determine whether or not the fault is actually emanating from the program itself or outside sources using generic computer problem solving methodologies. This is why the mode is safe, because it is unlikely to crash. Making it "safe" to problem solve.

it depends on what PC you have. on apple and windows X.p professional, if the computer is not turned off properly of you had a power , your computer will/might come up a screen saying "your computer was not shut down properly and as a result data was lost. choose safe mode to return this data back or continue normally!" You can also access Safe Mode when you boot up Windows and press F8 repeatedly on the black screen. It'll give you the option to either access Safe Mode, or Safe Mode with Networking.
