There is a problem with the emissions system. Check for a loose gas cap. If that is not the problem, seek out the services of a professional.
Check to see if you are getting fuel and spark
Check for water leaks in rubber hoses. Check radiator for leaks. Check for Low engine oil level. Check oil for water ingress (water droplets on dipstick) Check for water in cylinder (Check compression or remove spark plugs, check for rust or water spurring out hole when cranking engine).
This happened to me last summer while driving my 2002 Tahoe Z71 on the highway. In my case it was an electrical issue with a blown 10 amp fuse. Check the fuse box located in the engine compartment. After replacing the fuse, I was good to go!

I would check your Ignition Module. That's the first place to look.

On a 1994 Buick LaSabre why does the engine continue to rev up while driving even when the brake is applied ? or when driving why doesn't the engine return to idle when the brake is applied? I would check for a vacuum leak
If one of my tires suddenly lost pressure while I was driving, I would pull over as soon as possible and replace that tire with my spare tire.
