Literature is a vast study of the many authors of our times, their poetry, novels, and other works. We study English literature and also works from people from all over the globe. Keeping in mind that their 'grammar' is reflective of their times, seasons, decades and centuries. We know that grammar has changed throughout the years and that when speaking, we use Standard English in professional atmospheres and in schools. As teachers, we teach our students to correctly use standard english, all the while watching a nation of young people butcher words with their own versions of text-talk, slang, idioms, etc. These are the challenges of teachers to cross reference studying the language of literature and balancing it with engilsh grammar.
No matter, we need to understand where our words come from (Latin, Greek) and that everyday as our cultures cross one another, we gain even more words and language from others. We continue to borrow words from others and use them in our daily language.
The connection I see is when reading something by Robert Frost, I know that there will be language and grammar unfamiliar (whereunto, hence, etc.) or Shakespeare, (whereforth art thou) and that grammar does still continue to play a huge part in our reading, speaking, studying and writing.
English grammar is the rules of the language - things like "verbs and nouns agree in number" or "the goes in front of the noun not after it". English literature is books, etc, written in English.
Literature has always been a source of inspiration for politicians and lawmakers alike. Without literature, politics wouldn't function properly.

Grammar is a set of agreed conventions that help the author be better understood by the reader
Keeping in mind that literature and grammer often have only a fleeting relationship, it is safe to say that a grammar lesson would not derail a literature lesson, but would serve only to punctuate the difference between how things ought to be said, and how they are normally said so that people can understand them. This is called artistic licence.

Universal grammar is a topic that has been researched in linguistics since the mid-20th century. The basic, fundamental structure of all human languages is very similar, in spite of the obvious differences in vocabulary and sound. This basic structure is called Universal Grammar. The innateness hypothesis is the idea that this Universal Grammar is present in all healthy human minds as a result of biological inheritance (in other words, grammar is innate).
The correct grammar is "Between you and me."
