Not quite sure what you mean by "finished documents." After all, a document can't be considered finished if there are any misspellings or punctuation errors, right? But I think you are talking about a final check before submitting a document you've created.
When you write something for others to read, presumably you have an idea, or ideas, that you want to get across. Your ideas will not be taken seriously if you can't even command the very basic medium you're using to convey those ideas. In other words, at best you'll be taken for a child, at worst, as a sub-literate moron. Not the impression you normally want to give. People assume that a person who can't write is not educated.
All you can do is read the document and see if you notice anything that appears to be inaccurate, ungrammatical, or incorrectly punctuated. How can you be sure that you will notice these errors? If you are sufficiently well informed, you will notice the errors. If you are not sufficiently well informed, then perhaps you need to get someone else to check your finished document for you.

Yes, although grammar and punctuation are commonly thought to be separate parts, punctuation is actually an integral part of grammarNot exactly. Punctuation is a relatively late set of signs introduced to make written language easier to understand. There is no punctuation in spoken language ( unless you're Victor Borge!) but there is plenty of grammar in it.
