Not sure what your question is, but "staple" is a term that refers to the length of the fiber. Basically, longer staple length is considered more luxurious--and usually more expensive--because it is usually associated with benefits like more luster in the resulting fabric, less of a tendency to pill, the ability to weave or knit finer fabrics that are lighter in weight but still sturdy., etc.

For explanations of how fiber properties translate to use in apparel, I usually recommend "The Fairchild Encyclopedia of Menswear," which has dozens of definitions that a layperson can understand.

Supima is a brand name for extra-long staple cotton grown in the U.S. that is quality-controlled. By contrast, most cotton is considered "short staple."

What is better combed cotton or supima cotton?

hini booksSupima cotton is a brand name which specifies Pima cotton grown only in the U.S. It is ELS cotton (extra long staple) with staples, on average, 1.44" long.Egyptian cotton is a generic term that refers to any cotton grown in Egypt, which grow a variety of cotton: MLS (medium long staple), LS, and ELS. The ELS staples are, on average, 2" long.If you compare ELS Egyptian cotton to any cotton, the Egyptian is the best in terms of softness. >>> This statement is categorically wrong."Egyptian cotton" is any cotton that happens to be grown in the country of Egypt. An ELS cotton grown in Egypt may - or may not - compare well to other ELS cottons grown anywhere else.Suppima, which is a brand name of a particularly well studied, developed, researched variety of ELS has been documented to be a superior ELS variety of cotton. Part of the differentiation, and quality, of Supima is not only the specific variety of cotton, but also the methods with which it is grown and processed. The whole seed, soil, growing, processing, manufacturing processes in Egypt simply do not match the highly developed agriculture processes which are used for Supima. As well, the seed stock of Supima - superior Pima - is categorically a higher quality plant; it makes better cotton fibers. Better fibers, in addition to the superior farming, processing and manufacturing processes ensures that Supima Cotton products are the highest quality cotton bar none.

Can you machine wash supima cotton poplin?

All Supima items can be washed just like regular cotton items. The fiber is significantly stronger than regular cotton so should be more durable over the long term. However, to maintain the best quality of the Supima or cotton item it is always desirable to be as gentle on the fabric as possible. this mainly applies to the drying process. Try never to over dry a cotton item. It is always best to remove the cotton item from the drier before it has been completely desiccated.

What is the difference between pima cotton and ordinary cotton?

Pima cotton is, by definition, always an Extra Long Staple cotton. This means that each strand of fiber is longer, which makes for strong, soft, absorbent woven cloths and textiles. Ordinary cotton is a Long Staple cotton; that is, the fibers grow shorter than Pima cotton (ELS) fibers. Which is better 300 thread count Egyptian cotton or 600 thread count cotton?

Actually, we have all gotten too obsessed with thread count. If your thread count is too high the fabric won't breathe and will be very uncomfortable winter and summer. That being said, Egyptian cotton is generally recognized as being superior to any other, due to the length of the cotton fibers. So, yes, 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton is superior to 600 thread county pima or sateen--as is 600 thread count Egyptian cotton.

Do clothes made from supima cotten shrink?

Yes all cotton is subject to shrinkage and Supima is no different than any other cotton. However, shrinkage is really more a factor of the fabric manufacturing than the fiber. Knits will always shrink more than a woven fabric. There are compaction process that can be applied to try to pre-shrink and set the fabric prior to manufacturing of the apparel or home textile item. Those go along way to minimizing any further potential shrinkage.

How do you clean a garment made with 50 percent rayon 50 percent supima cotton and 50 percent supima al godon?

You'd want to handle it very gently, under monitored and controlled conditions ina heavily bonded commercial laboratory, under observation by archaeologists andmaterials experts as well as professional dry cleaners, and a Smithsonian curatormight also be a wise addition to the group. Under no circumstances must you everconsider wearing such a garment. What you've got there is definitely a rarity andpossibly one of a kind, comprised of a fabric synthesized of materials that add upto 150 percent !
