Sarmatia was an ancient region located in Eastern Europe, encompassing parts of modern-day Ukraine, Russia, and Poland. It is not tied to any specific modern country as it was a historical and cultural region rather than a specific political entity.

They were possibly an Indo-European people who came from today's Ukraine area, however lack of early written records makes their early origin uncertain until they settled in Thrace, Moesia, Macedonia, Dacia, Scythia Minor, Sarmatia, Bithynia, Mysia, Pannonia, and other regions of the Balkans and Anatolia.
