There are many animals to be found in the desert such as cougars, jackrabbits, coyotes, armadillos, scorpions, snakes and camels. Some animals may restrict their activity to the cooler mornings and evenings. Some may burrow underground to avoid heat.
The only coastal desert in Chile is the Atacama Desert.
