You need a valid British or EU passport to enter Gibraltar - Spanish nationals can also use the identity card.
Visitors entering from Spain, who require a visa to enter Spain, should beware. By going to Gibraltar you will be deemed to have left Spain and so may well require a new visa to cross back into Spain.
Gibraltar is British territory so you you would not need a passport if you are a British citizen. However if you carrier has any connections elsewhere they may require a passport for boarding.

It doesn't matter where one is coming from. If you are: - An EU citizen, your EU ID is good enough. - A citizen of a country who doesn't need a visa to enter the UK, you don't need a visa to enter Gibraltar. - All others: you need a visa to enter Gibraltar. However; if you have a currently valid multiple entry UK visa of 1 year or more, then you can enter Gibraltar on the strength of it alone.
