I can't factually back this up, but I spent a few years in the area, some in Lewiston, some in Kamiah, and I saw for myself during the winter of 2004 that parts of the Clearwater did indeed seem to freeze from the bed upwards, north of Orofino headed towards Lewiston. Can't seem to find anything online, but that was my experience.
