Yes because in shallow watewr the water and the bottom of the river rub and create friction in deep water the water the water is moving on top of another layer of water so less friction is created making it faster.
it slows the streams flow
Whether a ship uses a river does not affect the depth- the depth affects whether or not a ship can use the river. Depth is affected by water flow, and the terrain the river runs through.
it is the speed of the flow in a river
Gravity makes higher and lower water flow which makes it deaper or shallower.
The gradient of a river is mostly flat or downhill which means that as the water flows it is affected by gravity. The steeper the gradient goes downhill, the more gravity will affect the water which will make the water flow faster (increases the velocity).
The speed at which water travels in a river can vary depending on factors such as the river's width, depth, and slope. On average, water in a river can flow at speeds ranging from a few centimeters per second to several meters per second.
The gradient of a stream affects the speed of the water as it moves downstream. The steeper the gradient, the faster the water moves.
A river's slope, volume of flow, and the shape of its streambed all affect how fast the river flows and how much sediment it can erode.
If a rivers slope increases so does water speed. And as more water flows through a river speed also increases due to the volume of flow. As for the stream bed shape , friction affects river speed when the water is deep. Hope i helped!
As depth increases, current speed typically decreases due to friction with the riverbed. This is known as the velocity gradient, where the flow is faster at the surface and slower towards the bottom. It's important to consider this relationship when studying river dynamics or designing structures in rivers.
I think dam is more dangerous for numerous life forms dependent on river water than the river itself. The drastic change in water flow cycle obviously will affect those fish, animals, birds and even people on the river banks. I have also read that the dams cause harm to river itself by not allowing sand, mud etc. to flow further along with water and this slowly gets accumulated at the bottom and decreases depth of the river, I don't have in depth knowledge on this.
