Has anyone ever survived falling off of niagara falls?

A few daredevils have gone over Niagara falls within a container (usually referred to as a "barrel"). Some of them survived, but several died in the attempt.

Only one person has ever gone over the falls without protection and survived. It was a young boy who was wearing a life preserver. He had been fishing in a boat well above the falls and the motor conked out.

The theory as to his surviving the plunge was the fact that he was not very heavy and therefore the life preserver brought him back to the surface quickly.

Yes, Sam Patch started the attempts. He jumped from a high tower above the gorge, just below the falls and survived. A 63 year old woman, Annie Taylor went over the falls in a barrel and survived, just with a little bleeding. She suggested that no one ever try that again. :/

People did though. There have been rescues also, such as a little seven year old boy with just a life vest was rescued along with his seventeen year old sister. She was rescued first and the little boy caught a life ring thrown to him.
