Key technologies used in virtual reality (VR) development: Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs): Devices like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive for immersive visual experiences. Motion Tracking: Sensors like gyroscopes and accelerometers for detecting user movements. 3D Modeling & Rendering: Software like Unity or Unreal Engine for creating detailed, interactive virtual environments. Haptic Feedback: Devices that provide tactile responses to simulate touch and interaction. Spatial Audio: 3D sound technology that adjusts audio based on the user's position. NO. Hmmmm...that might depend on how "real" the virtual reality seemed to those viewing it. If the virtual reality was close enough to "real reality" so as to be undetectable, then I should think that, yes, you could control others' thoughts by allowing them to view (and consequently incorporate into their belief system) a "reality" that wasn't true. (Hope that makes sense...I know what I'm thinking, just not sure it's coming out right.)
One emerging technology is the development of voice recognition software and the development of voice activated commands. Additionally, virtual reality and software and hardware whose purpose it to facilitate the independence of disabled persons are being developed and improved upon.
Actually, the term "virtual reality" was coined in 1982 by science fiction author Damien Broderick, in The Judas Mandala -- at least five years before Lanier used it.
