On the second trip, in 1925, Borglum found Mount Rushmore and knew that was the mountain he wanted to carve, no wheedling needed! Gutzon Borglum had been working on the Stone Mountain project in Georgia, but he was dismissed from that project which made him available for the Mount Rushmore project. It is Mount Rushmore, not Rushford, and it is a federal site and national park. If you climbed it they would stop you and arrest you for trespassing on federal property. I imagine they could come up with several other things to charge you with.
