It is called the 'Great Pyramid' because it is the largest one among the ancient Egyptian pyramids.

It was built c.2550BC for the Pharaoh Khufu. It is 137 metres high and contains 2.3 million limestone and granite blocks.
It may just be because it is the largest of all the pyramids ever built, or maybe it's because the building plan is different.
