How do you measure rivers?

you use a tape measure two people stand on each side one has the tape measure and throws it holding the end onto the other side someone must go in and find the middle then add it by itself then that's how wide it is

There are a few ways of doing it.

Manually, you could just use the 'dip-stick' method of dropping in a straight object, lifting it back out and then measuring the wet part of the stick.

If you wanted an electronic measurement, there are a couple of methods. The easiest is probably a hydrostatic sensor.

A hydrostatic level sensor sits on the river-bed and transmits the amount of water that is directly overhead. You would want to drop the sensor into the deepest part of the river if you were looking for the maximum depth.

You check the scale on the map say 1cm=2metres then measure in centimeters the distance and convert it into metres. Basically you need to read the scale of the map and convert the units of measure :-)
