Ima not an expert but I have read a lot in Nat Geo and Smithsonian and taken a few collge claqsses. Think about it this way, anything we (people do afects our surroundings. I like to think it all amountst to natural selection. Our being here is natural and the things we do are essentially natural. Sure, the stuff we do and make are "man -made" but, the fact is, that is what we do. Like when an animal eats another animal. That is just what that animal does. If you look at a river's ecosystem, you find the life in it sustains itself based on the life naturally found in it, If you introduce a new life, like a foreign fish, to it, you will mess up the balance. That new fish needs to find food, taking that food from another fish. If you do construction nearby, and pour concrete in the water, the concrete acts like ap poison, it will kill something in the water. I am not a tree hugger, I just understand some things are what they are.
If they flood they could damage the crops because farmers their plant crops close to the rivers so they get the water
