The Environment Agency have monitoring stations across England and Wales that measure the levels of rivers, lakes, sea and groundwater. Most of the measurements are taken electronically by sensors in the river, store on site and then automatically sent through to databases used by there forecasting system.
The River Thames is controlled through a system of locks and weirs that regulate water flow and depth, helping to prevent flooding and manage water levels. The Environment Agency is responsible for monitoring and maintaining these structures to ensure the river is navigable and safe for both transportation and wildlife.
The Environment Agency is an organisation that looks after Rivers in England and Wales. It monitor rainfall river levels and sea conditions 24 hours a day. This information is used to predict possibility of flooding. If flooding is forecast, the Environment Agency's Floodline issues warning. It also gives advice on what to do before , during and after a flood.
