The Great Lakes system are inter-connected to each other and eventually flow to the Atlantic via the St Lawrence Seaway system. Lake Michigan is connected to Lake Huron and then flows through Sarnia and Port Huron, through the Welland canal into Lake Erie from there it flows through to Lake Ontario by way of Niagara falls and Buffalo, then into the St Lawrence at Kingston and finally flowing into the gulf of St Lawrence. In a less dramatic manner, water also evaporates from the lake and falls as rain and snow on the northeastern US which flows into creeks and streams and rivers into the Atlantic.
