Charlotte, North Carolina, is approximately 100 to 120 miles away from the Blue Ridge Mountains, depending on the specific location within the mountains you are referring to. The drive typically takes around 2 to 2.5 hours, making it a popular destination for residents looking to enjoy outdoor activities and scenic views. The closest access points to the Blue Ridge Parkway can be reached from Charlotte with relative ease.
The Blue Mountains of New South Wales gained their name Blue Mountains as a result of the blue haze that covers them when seen from a distance (especially in hot weather). The extensive Eucalyptus bushland of the Blue Mountains give off eucalyptus oil from their leaves. Some of this merges with the atmosphere to form a distinctive blue haze. This blue haze is far less evident nowadays, due to the extensive building developments that have seen deforestation of the mountains.

The closest notable mountain to Detroit is the Appalachian Mountains, which are located several hundred miles to the east. Specifically, the nearest significant peaks can be found in the western part of Virginia, such as the Blue Ridge Mountains. However, within Michigan itself, the highest point is Mount Arvon, located in the Upper Peninsula, but it is not classified as a mountain range and is relatively far from Detroit.

Wilson Blue Ridge can be found in the early 1940s, and the Wilson company had a history of attaching the names of famous golfers to their woods and irons; I find Sam Snead's name on Wilson irons as far back as 1942, in fact. But the earliest I can find Sam Snead's name as part of the Wilson Blue Ridge is 1964-1965. Magazine ads of that era spoke of the "Sam Snead Wilson Blue Ridge"-- a set which contained 2 woods and 5 irons. It does not seem that the name got changed to "Wilson Sam Snead Blue Ridge" till the early 1970s, but it was not official-- many newspaper ads still placed Snead's name at the beginning, rather than in the middle.
