You will see tons of granite in Yosemite National Park and while on Half Dome. The granite is actually has quite a good grip, as long as there is no gravel and the rock is not wet. Much of the rock on Half Dome has been eroded, so is actually fairly smooth while still being a bit rough because of the uneven weathering of the surface.
Yosemite Valley was primarily shaped by glacial activity over millions of years. The valley's formation began around 10 million years ago, with significant sculpting occurring during the last Ice Age, around 20,000 to 30,000 years ago. Glaciers carved out the distinctive U-shape of the valley, creating its iconic features, such as El Capitan and Half Dome. The valley's current form was largely established by the end of the last glacial period, approximately 12,000 years ago.

Yosemite's land is continuously changing as long as there is weather in the world. Yosemite is currently shaped and molded by the small glaciers in the park, by water, acidic rain, and by wind.

Alabama is about 2,165 miles away from Yosemite National Park. I would recommend flying to a closer city and renting a car to visit Yosemite, or else a drive from Alabama to Yosemite could take as long as 35 hours non-stop.
