Niagara falls consists of the American Falls on the American side and the Canadian or Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side - they are physically divided by Goat Island. The Horseshoe Falls, the spectacular curved falls made synonymous with Niagara Falls through popular images, is 671 meters (2,200 ft) in width and 53 meters high (173 feet). The American Falls are 253 m (830 feet) wide (290 meters or 950 feet if you measure all the outcroppings in the jagged lip). The drop is 57 meters (188 feet) down to the river, though the water hits piles of rocks after 21 meters (70 feet) in some places.
