There are five oceans - Pacific, Indian, Southern, Atlantic and Arctic

Some consider the Southern Ocean to not be an ocean at all as it is defined as the waters around Antarctica, which are more naturally viewed (and were originally viewed) as parts of the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans. This would be the equivalent of saying that the waters around North America were the North American Ocean.

Nonetheless, it should be noted that the International Hydrographic Organization formally recognised the Southern Ocean as a separate and distinct ocean in 2000, declaring, naming, and demarcating the boundaries of the Southern Ocean. It is regarded as the fourth largest of the five oceans.

Those limits include all water below 60 degrees south, and some of it, like the Arctic Ocean, is frozen.
