Many beaches are characterised by white sand; fewer beaches are pebblyand/or rocky. The surf in many parts of Australia is excellent. The biggest dager is that many parts of Australia (especially in the northern half of the continent) have dangerous creatures lurking off the beaches, such as bluebottles, box jellyfish, stonefish, irukandji jellyfish and the occasional shark.
