The 58 steps in the Lincoln Memorial symbolize the 58 years between Abraham Lincoln's birth in 1809 and his death in 1865. They lead up to the central chamber, where the seated statue of Lincoln resides, emphasizing his significance in American history and the principles of equality and justice he championed. The design reflects the importance of Lincoln's contributions to the nation, particularly in relation to the Civil War and the abolition of slavery.

Dr. King gave the speech in Washington D.C.
It is an impressive structure. The statue of President Lincoln is awesome. There is a great view of the Mall area from the top of the steps. If you look you can find the marker on the steps, and you can stand where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr made his "I have a Dream" speech. It is right next to the Vietnam Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. And there is a bathroom inside the Lincoln Memorial (lower level)- and they can be hard to find in DC.
