The figure is always changing from year to year, but worldwide more trees are planted than cut down. Most are parts of managed timberland, meaning they are grown for industrial use. (Paper and other tree products do not come from trees in the wilderness.) Tree products include lumber from wood, paper from wood scraps, fuel from bark, and all sorts of cleaning agents and gums from naturally occurring ingredients.

Around 11.5 billion trees are cut worldwide yearly. The US plants 2.3 billion tree seedlings yearly. In the US, planting exceeds harvesting by 31%. All three are rising figures.
