On 31 March 1984, Robert Moriarty flew a Beechcraft Bonanza through the arches of the tower. During WW 2, Cpt. William Overstreet flew a P-51 Mustang under the Eiffel, in pursuit of an unknown Nazi pilot.
Highly doubt it. Although he was in in Paris until early 1888 (tower construction began in 1887), he spent his final years in the south of France. The tower was completed in 1890, the year he passed. I wonder if he ever saw it completed?
No. According to the liner notes on 1991's Don't Explain, Robert Palmer is given sole credit for writing the song. For reasons that no one can explain, Mary Ambrose told some people, including writers, that she had co-written the song with Palmer, per her brother Michael. The information was then included in discography listings in good faith. Also, Aeroplane was written in 1991 and Mary Ambrose did not make the acquaintance of Robert Palmer until late 1995.
