If you are traveling by car, truck, bus or motorcycle and have sufficient water, food and gas and stick to established roads you should have no problem crossing most deserts if your vehicle is in good running condition. I have driven across all the major deserts of North America and never had a serious problem, even on the hottest days of summer. Crossing on foot or bicycle is problematic, however. It is difficult to carry sufficient water and food for a lengthy desert trip.
