It is about 6.2m above sea level.

(The Avon river which runs near the square flows out to sea - it doesnt fill the square up like a lake)

It is a common myth that the square is under sea level - but (as I found out while completing my Bachelor Of Science degree at Canterbury University) it is actually more than 6m above sea level.
