Many zoos across the U.S. house tapirs, including the San Diego Zoo, the Bronx Zoo in New York, and the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Additionally, the Milwaukee County Zoo and the Los Angeles Zoo also feature these unique animals. Tapirs are often part of conservation and educational programs in these institutions, given their status as vulnerable species.
Many zoos in the U.S. have sloths, including the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and the San Diego Zoo in California. Additionally, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio and the Houston Zoo in Texas are known for their sloth exhibits. These zoos often highlight sloths in their rainforest or tropical animal exhibits, allowing visitors to learn more about these unique creatures.
According to the National Zoo, a part of the Smithsonian Institute, about 2,000 animals from about 400 different species are currently housed there. Additional Info: They have this new thing, or to me new, Animals cams! Where during visting hours you can watch the animals from live cameras in their living areas. This Zoo happened to have ones that looked really interesting and lots to choose from. Many of the Zoos have them, but often they are only with a few of the animals. The Zoo has done alot of updating their site and park trying to compete with some of the larger Zoos. From what I could find out this Zoo also claims to be the oldest "formal" Zoo in the US. The Zoo was created by an Act of Congress (really), but that was in 1889, and I think that was after the Philadephia Zoo.
