It was thought that one needed a pyramid to gain entry into the afterlife. This is why Pharaoh's had pyramids built for them when they were alive. When the Pharaoh or person died they would have to undergo the process-90 days long-of mummification. They would need their valuables and pocessions in their tomb. When they died the stars would have to line up with the pyramid to get in. Then, a god would first judge them. If they passed that the god would then take them on a boat into the afterlife to live with other Egyptian gods.
