A zoo license allows the approved party to exhibit, and display, for educational purposes, import, purchase, export, possess, propagate, euthanize, transport, offer the sale, loan, or trade of restricted wildlife or domesticated animals and other lawfully possessed or approved species. They are issued for the purposes of advancing science, wildlife management, promotion of public health, education, and wildlife conservation. The zoo licenses doesn't apply to each species individually exhibited it is granted for the right to open and operate the zoo, not for approval to own or display the individual animals. The zoo has to meet different requirements standards, and inspections, in order to maintain the licenses. The application must clearly outline many factors such as; location, number of animals, the type of animals, the safety of exhibits, healthy accommodations for animals, number of staff, ratio of care givers to animals, estimates of visitors, number of employees hired for guest services, types of access for the staff to animals during emergencies, emergency plans, and types of transportation for employees during operating hours. If all of these things are approved then the formal process will go to the next level. This would involve the physical inspections. Also, the zoo licenses doesn't include the veterinary inspections, or licenses. To keep the everything up to date renewals of the licenses and special inspections, continues at intervals through out the following months. For more details, please see site listed below.
