Gravity dams:
Advantage of a gravity dam is that every section will be stable and reliable. An Earth dam can overflow and collapse because of erosion.
There are many gravity dams constructed of compacted earth. High dams are generally concrete. All dams require a spillway to be safe. The spillway must be armored.
Earthen dams have very wide base and suitable to pervious foundation.
A reservoir is a body of water kept at a controleld level, usually by a dam. Dams gnerate electricity via the movement of water. Aqueducts are open 'pipes' that exploit gravity to induce water flow

Mass concrete is concrete cast without Rebars. They are good in compression and are mostly used for the construction of gravity structures such as Dams. While reinforced concrete have reinforcement bars in them, which increases the tensile strenght of the concrete.

Gravity is a force that keeps things from floating in mid air. Without it you would have been out of the earth by now!! Gravity is a strength deep under the earth (from the inside). Hope this was useful..

Failure of these dams may be caused by, Overtopping Seepage Structural Erosion.
Downstream of the dams the river would get narrow and shallow and upstream of the dams the river would get wide and deep. In between the dams would vary between the two depending on how much water each dam releases and lakes and ponds would probably form between the dams.
Natural dams are made of earth, or more rarely wood and silt (e.g. beavers). Manmade dams may consist of packed earth, or stone, or concrete.
