What are two kinds of near shore currents

Nearshore, larger sand and gravel particles are primarily moved along the ocean bottom by processes such as wave action and longshore currents. Waves create currents that can transport sediment parallel to the shore, while the energy of breaking waves can dislodge and move larger particles. Additionally, tidal currents may also contribute to the movement of these sediments in nearshore environments.
Two kinds of currents that wave action can cause near shore are "Longshore Current", which is the overall direction and movement of the waves that strike the shore at an angle. The other kind of current is "Rip Currents", which are narrow streams of water that break through sandbars and drain rapidly back to sea.
Wave vane means a device to measure breaker angle in the nearshore. This device was developed by P.Chandramohan, National Institute of Oceanography, India to take Littoral Environmental Observations (LEO) in the nearshore. This wave vane is very much helpful to coastal engineers and oceanographers where measurement of breaker angle is very essential for longshore currents and littoral drift computations.
