rainforests like deserts have very poor soil. Sounds funny to be saying that a rainforest has bad soil with so many trees, right? Well, the reason that there are so many trees is: a) high rainfall due to equatorial location b) the forest floor has all of the nutrients The amount of decomposing matter on the forest floor is huge. Humid conditions assist in making this occur faster. It happens so fast that nutrient rich soil such as humus and loam can't be produced- instead we have a nutrient abundant topsoil and a poor soil below.
