The guards at Arlington National Cemetery, known as Sentinels, are typically male and stand at a height of around 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 2 inches. They wear a distinctive uniform that includes a military dress uniform with a black jacket, white gloves, and polished shoes. The guards maintain a strict posture, standing tall with their heads held high, and they perform their duties with precision and discipline, reflecting the solemnity of their responsibilities. Their physical presence is complemented by a commitment to uphold the honor and respect of the cemetery and its memorials.
In federal cemeteries, upright headstones typically mark the graves of veterans, while flat markers are often used for spouses or family members. The choice of headstone style can be influenced by regulations set by the Department of Veterans Affairs, which aims to maintain uniformity and order within the cemetery. Additionally, flat markers are easier to maintain and can help with landscaping and mowing. Ultimately, the type of headstone reflects both personal and regulatory decisions regarding memorialization.
I think so. why else would you be standing at the foot of a grave? unless it's somebody you know, in which case you don't really need to read the headstone every time you visit it. Do you mean 'should you be able to read the front of the headstone?'. In that case, yes: the front part of the headstone is the part facing the grave, so if you are standing on the grave side of the headstone you'll be able to read the front.
