The Nile river begins in east Africa and flows north to the Mediterranean Sea.
The region of Northern Egypt is termed Lower Egypt because it is further downstream on the Nile River. Conversely, the region of Southern Egypt is termed Upper Egypt because it is further upstream on the Nile River. The Nile River flows from south to north.
It was going against the flow of the river. The Nile flows north.
Initially it does as it flows out of Lake Tana, but turns north and flows into Sudan and merges with the White Nile.
