Or have salty breath..... If your dog ingest to much salt water she will most likely throw up and have very watery diarreah and become lethargic. It is important to keep an eye on your pup and make sure he gets plenty of fresh water. Too much salt water can cause organ damage.

Yes, many animals are specialised to cope with the high salinity of ocean water. Fish are the most obvious examples - they naturally lose internal water due to osmosis, so they will drink it. They have specialised cells inside to remove the salt.

Some marine mammals will drink seawater too, seals and sealions can do it. The key is a kidney component called a Loop of Henle, a longer one can get rid of excess salt and reclaim water that would otherwise be passed as urine.

Certain birds can do it too. Albatrosses and Fulmars are two such species. They have a way of separating the salt out from their blood, excreting it from their nostrils.

Even domestic housecats can safely hydrate themselves with it, under specific circumstances though.
