She helped expand women's rights. In the late 1700's and early 1800's women were not treated as equally as men. Her husband, John Adams, would come to her for advice on many matters. They exchanged letters with intellectual discussions on government politics. She was an advocate of married women's property rights and more opportunities for women (especially in education).
