It is a high school marching band festival and competition held annually at Haralson County High School, in Tallapoosa, GA. 2009 marks its 14th year -- 21 bands competed this year, in categories from 1A to Open Class. Performances begin at 11am and continue until the 10pm awards ceremony. Jacksonville State University has done an exhibition performance several times -- this year's WWII tribute was amazing.

Results for 2009: The 1st place "sweepstakes" (overall) of the evening this year was Central Carroll HS, who did a comedy piece with about 50 props, pre-recorded sound, and a duel between a Indian-head-dress-wearing tomato and Mr. Potato Head...even throwing in the kitchen sink (literally) and a Viking-costumed Opera singer ("when the fat lady sings") in the final chord. For those who came for traditional marching shows the 2nd place sweepstakes winner -- Parkview HS of Lilburn Georgia -- was the real winner of the evening, with its "Starry, Starry Night". Rome HS came in 3rd with an excellent show (" Blue Memories La Suerte de los Tontos Pegasus"), and South Paulding HS did an amazing show and was the 1st place sweepstakes winner in the smaller (1A - 3A) category.
