The food chain in the Great Barrier Reef begins with the producers like giant kelp and phytoplankton. The primary consumers are zooplankton and dugong. The secondary consumers are things like the anemonefish and the whale shark. Third level consumers are the manta ray and the blue-ringed octopus. The Apex predators in the Great Barrier Reef are tiger sharks and moray eels.
The crown if thorn starfish lives in the Great Barrier Reef. The Reef provides shelter and food, since the starfish eat coral.
It keeps the ecosystems going and it provides all the needs for running an ecosystem. Habitat, Food, etc.

During the past couple of years there have been major changes to the Great Barrier Reef of Queensland, Australia. Threats to the reef have increased steadily over the years despite the work of the authorities. Therefore, the reef has undertook a massive change in its ecosystem. Some of these include:Harmful substances such as toxic chemicals, sewage and rubbish are threatening the vast range of plants and animals that live on the reef.Climate change and global warming have largely affected the environment of the Great Barrier Reef, bleaching the coral and killing off certain plant and animal species.Overfishing is also a threat as the once many species of colorful fish are now gone forever as the result of disrupting the food chain.

The great barrier IS changing nf not in a good way. Its changing due to water tempurtures rising, over fishing and pollution. And the only people we can blame is US- the human race. We can improve it by NOT over fishing (for food or aquatic pets) and recycling all of our trash. It can be done! It will work- just try it! Every year, we LOSE parts of the barrier reef because of this- we really can't stop water temps, but we can change the other two.
