The higher you get the harder it is to breathe. Mount Everest is 8848 meters tall. Therefore it is in a zone called the "death zone" (the death zone is 8000 meters and above). Only 14 mountains are in this zone. Most climbers use oxygen from around 7000 meters to 8000 meters. But others try without. The first two climbers to do this were Reinhold Messner and Peter Habler. Mount Everest is also in line with jet stream winds. This causes the summit to be untouchable most of the year.
