Silting of a lake is when very fine particles of sand or clay fill the bed of the lake. The bed of the lake rises, which can cause flooding.
Silting is a great problem because it makes the river bed shallower so river channels would hold less water. And the floods are frequent in these areas. ANSWERED BY SANIA TARIQ
Silting refers to the build-up of silt on the bottom of the harbor or port. This build-up or silting will reduce the effective depth of the harbor or port, and dredging will have to be conducted to remove it to restore depth to the port. Silting results from the emptying of a river or waterway into a bay where the port is located, or it could result from the action of tides and/or currents in the ocean. Any of these represent the action of moving water, and when water moves, it can carry with in any number of things, including fine sediment that settles out as silt.
Ponds and lakes typically become forests by silting up. The sediments of a river can become trapped in a shallow lake and eventually becomes higher than the water level or water table. This forst forms a meadow, and later the larger trees grow in. This is now occurring at Mirror Lake in Yosemite How_can_a_pond_or_a_lake_become_a_forestForest.Lakes that dry up will usually not become forests because they lack groundwater, and there may be a concentration of alkali salts in the lake bed. Deforestation leads to silting by removing trees that stabilize the soil and maintain its structure. Without vegetation, soil becomes more susceptible to erosion from rain and wind, causing sediment to wash into rivers and streams. This increased sedimentation can clog waterways, disrupt aquatic ecosystems, and reduce water quality. Ultimately, the loss of trees accelerates the natural processes that contribute to silting and sediment buildup in water bodies.
ANSWERS............JILTING..SILTING.... TILTING ........QUILTING...........OK.
Ponds and lakes typically become forests by silting up. The sediments of a river can become trapped in a shallow lake and eventually becomes higher than the water level or water table. This forst forms a meadow, and later the larger trees grow in. This is now occurring at Mirror Lake in Yosemite National Forest. Lakes that dry up will usually not become forests because they lack groundwater, and there may be a concentration of alkali salts in the lake bed.
Removing the forest vegetation increases soil erosion. That soil is washed out into waterways when it rains, increasing the particulate matter in waterways.
The main disadvantages are:they result in a huge area being flooded, they result in silting immediately behind the dam, they reduce the supply of water to people living downstream from the dam, there is greater evaporation from a lake than from a flowing river, there is some evidence that the additional mass of the reservoir can destabilise the surface of the earth - causing earth tremors (or worse).
A tunnel between De-silting basin or Fore-bay to Surge Shaft is called Head Race tunnel which may have pressure flow or gravity flow.
It can get submerged in the reservoir formed by the dam. There could be more silting in the rivers and streams feeding into the reservoir which could result in more frequent flooding. The local aquifers will rise and so the ground may become more water-logged. Drainage of rainfall could be slower, which could also lead to a greater risk of flooding.

its not actually on a lake, like on top of a lake, its on the lake as in by the lake. and that lake is lake Ontario
