A closed Tube Station would be "Hammersmith Broadway".
Get the District tube line to Hammersmith Broadway, and the Apollo is opposite.

About eight miles.
The closest station is Piccadilly Circus. http://www.tubehotels.com/Piccadilly-Circus-hotels-194.html It's only three minutes walk away if you're in a hotel near Piccadilly.
Hammersmith Apollo is suitated in the west of london right next to the A4 flyover above it easy to get to by public transport tube station just around the corner and plenty of buses go nearby
The Hammersmith Apollo, XD.
There are two totally different tube stations called Hammersmith. Hammersmith & City + Circle Lines : This is on the north side of the Broadway. When you come out the main entrance, the Apollo is on the opposite side of the Broadway, about 400 metres away - basically keep walking towards the big flyover and you can't miss it. Piccadilly + District Lines : This exits into a shopping centre in the middle of the Broadway, you want to be looking for the southern/Talgarth Road exit. If you get it wrong, walk around the Broadway until you can see the large flyover - the Apollo is just the other side and VERY obvious.
