What is the best beach in Cornwall?

Best for what purpose? Sunbathing? Surfing? Lack of crowds? (I know that one but I'm not inclined to share it for obvious reasons, anyway it's a stiff climb down to it and an even stiffer climb up.)

At the moment - no-where it seems with the dreadful flooding :)

But flippancy aside - this is a very very hefty question. And take that from me who's most favourite place in all the world is Cornwall.

The answer is more easily given if you have a solid idea of what you are looking for. Are you looking for natural beauty and countryside? Or are you looking for shopping places, towns etc?

To be honest - if you have never been to Cornwall and you are going to see what it is all about and you are easy and open for all sorts of environments and experiences (and believe me when I say the amount of variety that you can experience up and down the country within the matter of an hour let alone the duration of your stay is untold) then it is best to get yourserlf a map of the place and decide where you want to start and where you woulod like to head and follow that path.

From personal experience (and this is aimed at you specifically if you have your own car andintend to travel around alot), the best thing you can hope for on your daily travels is to get hopfully lost down all the thousands of little cornish lanes that seem to magically arrive at the most indescribably magical and quaint little villages and forests and farms etc. it's quite breathtaking.

It's best to remember that the northern parts of Corwall are full of wild moors (also holding their own rugged magic and home to many historical legends including the Dozmary Pool where the lady of the lake was supposed to have brought forth Excalibur) and places like camelford (which in my opinion are just falt and uninteresting). To the middle and South and of course all the Coastlines are magnificent beyond words - especially caught in those magical sunsets with skies that seem to be born exclusively there.

Otherwise - if you would simply like a more traditional approach and visit all the best 'main' places that Cornwall has to offer then this list should be sufficient:

St. ives

Mevaggisey

Fowey

Boscastle

Tintagel

Mousehole

St. Mawes (in fact - anywhere on the St Just in Roseland peninsula is simply gorgeous - especially if you can find accomodation somewhere there. also keep a lookout for the st Just in roseland Church and Bar - the most magnificent church grounds nestled right by an inlet in the secrecy of a little valley)

Falmouth

Newquay

Godrevy (National trust and perfect if you re a keen surfer)

I could actually sit here and wrap a great deal many more places - all of them in fact, but it really would be worth your while to obtain books and maps of Cornwall and do some further research into it.

I can promise you though that wherever you end up going - you will land up in the most wonderful and beautiful place and you will bring a piece of it back inside of you when you return
