The main theme in Brighton Beach Memoirs is dignity in the face of adversity. Eugene wants to be more than just his mother's errand boy, Blanche wants the dignity of not having to rely on others, Stanley's quest for dignity causes him to lose his job, Jack's need to be a good father and provider causes him to push his body beyond its limits. Another theme is faith and forgiveness. Even though they struggle against seemingly insurmountable odds, they plod ahead, demonstrating in words and actions that things will work out in time. Also, they sin, and hurt each other, however, their forgiveness of transgressions allows them to maintain and even build the familial bonds that provides them with an identify, something they can cling to in the absence of anything else.....
